UMCOR Offering -- Spring Storms 2014
Dear Friends in the Texas Annual Conference,
Grace and peace to you in the name of our Resurrected Savior.
As you are aware, a series of spring storms bringing devastating tornadoes and floods have swept across the Southern section of the United States during this week. Hundreds of homes and two United Methodist churches, one in Arkansas and one in Mississippi, have been destroyed. At least 35 lives have been lost. Our neighbors in Arkansas have been hit particularly hard. The tornado touched down in Vilonia, Mayflower and Maumelle, all located on the outskirts of Little Rock. Fifteen of the deaths were in Arkansas alone.
First, I hope that you will keep all of the people, and especially our neighbors in Arkansas in your prayers. Tornados are especially hard on children, the poor and older persons. I am also asking you to receive an offering as quickly as possible for UMCOR Advance #901670.
Those funds should be sent to the Conference Office, and the Treasurer will remit them to UMCOR for distribution.
I know that several congregations, especially those located near the Arkansas border, are already responding with cash, gift cards and supplies. Thank you. As soon as we hear from the Disaster Coordinator in Arkansas, the Texas annual Conference will be ready to help with volunteers prepared to clean up and rebuild.
Thanks in advance for being the People of God doing good in the world.
Grace and peace,
Janice Riggle Huie
