World Food Day - Oct. 16

World Food Day is on Oct. 16. Help create awareness about world hunger and support UMCOR hunger programs by using the available resources.

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) and Foods Resource Bank (FRB), are conducting trainings and providing food security for more than 750 adults and children in six state-run institutions in the Yerevan, Syunik, Gegharkunik and Kotayk regions. As a result, residents of orphanages, hospitals, and centers for the elderly have improved diets and a better quality of life.

Ways You Can Help

Observe World Food Day, Oct. 16 in your local community or congregation. Support programs like UMCOR’s food security program in Armenia by giving to Armenia Emergency, UMCOR Advance #250225.  You can also support UMCOR-SA&D, Advance # 982188, which works to eradicate the root causes of hunger and poverty by leading vulnerable communities into sustained development.

Learn about world hunger and poverty by downloading Ten Facts About Hunger a new online resource to share with your local church or community group. You may also download World Food Day: Creating Sustainable Systems church bulletin, which highlights how youth and adults in Armenia are learning farm management, beekeeping and nutrition. A World Food Day Power Point slide is also available to collect a special offering toward UMCOR-supported hunger programs.
