Medicare as Primary Coverage in Incorporated Churches

If you’re a member of the clergy in an incorporated church with fewer than 20 employees, you may be able to choose Medicare as your primary coverage, even if you’re working full time.

Why is this a benefit?

Choosing Medicare as your primary coverage while you’re still working can mean a substantially lower personal contribution amount, because your contribution will be reduced by the amount of your Medicare Part B premium.

Some considerations

  • You must be a member of the clergy.
  • You must be age 65 or older and be enrolled in Medicare (Parts A and B).
  • Your church must be incorporated with fewer than 20 employees.
  • You will not receive The Methodist Hospital/ETMC write-off of deductibles and coinsurance.
