Brothers & Sisters,
The United Methodist Church as an entire denomination is thinking about what it means to be the Church of Jesus Christ in the Wesleyan tradition. One of the ways in which that conversation is taking place is led by the Committee on Faith and Order. Last quadrennium's Commission developed a document called "Wonder, Love and Praise" which was commended by the General Conference for church-wide study. Last fall I became the chair of the Committee and I am seeking feedback from laity and clergy about the current draft of the document you can find it at:
Just cut and paste the address into your browser and it should take you to the document.

On four days this fall I will hold conversations about the document.  The schedule look like this:
September 23, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm at St. Luke's UMC-The Story, Houston (Central South District)  This will include live streaming.
September 26, 12:00 - 2:30 pm at Beaumont, First UMC (Southeast District)
September 29, 10:00 - 1:00 pm at Madisonville, First UMC (West District)
October 3, 10:00 am - 1:00 pm at Longview, First UMC (North District)

Please note that the September 23rd discussion will be webcast so anyone with internet access can watch and participate.  It would be most helpful if participants read the draft before coming to the conversation.

Included in each event will be some discussion about the future of The United Methodist Church in light of the special session of General Conference being held in February 2019.  I will have some time for questions and answers in each session.

While this letter is being sent to members of the annual conference, all United Methodists are invited to attend. Thus, a pastor could bring as many lay persons as are available.  In Beaumont, Madisonville and Longview a lunch will be served.

You may attend any of the events, but registration (to make sure we have a meal for participants) should be done through your home district and will be forwarded as appropriate to the host districts.

Grace and Peace,
Bishop Scott J. Jones
