Director of Music and Worship – Rose Hill UMC, Tomball

Rose Hill UMC is seeking a new Director of Music to join our church on a part-time basis.  The Director of Music shall be responsible for coordinating  with the pastor and worship committee to provide the best appropriate music for worship.  He/she shall seek to provide music leadership, including music education for children through adult ages and will be expected to plan music for two worship services (8:30 a.m. and 10:45 a.m.) and other seasonal services. 
The ideal candidate will be capable of cooperating with other staff members to achieve the vision of RHUMC and also have experience with directing a hand bell choir, managing expenses, and working with both youth and children’s choirs.  This position reports directly to the pastor.
All candidates must complete an employment application. Successful candidates undergo a background check and Safe Sanctuary Training/Certification prior to employment.

General:  The Director of Music shall be responsible for providing the best possible music for the church and individual choirs.  He/she will provide leadership in worship, educate volunteer musicians, and provide Spiritual Leadership for adult, youth, and children touched by the Music Ministry.
Specific Duties include but not limited to:
Worship Leadership
Attend and lead two (2) worship services; 8:30am  and 10:45am

  • Direct Hymns
  • Plan Services
  • Develop Order of Worship (in coordination with Pastor and Worship Committee)
  • Coordinate and create Special Worship services
    • Cantata, Christmas Eve, Holy Thursday, etc.
  • Select hymns and anthems that coordinate with lectionary
Musical Leadership
Be the musical leader/teacher for the church
  • Schedule, plan, and lead weekly rehearsals for:
    • Chancel Choir
    • Children’s Choir
    • Youth Handbells
    • Adult Handbells
    • Special ensembles as needed
  • Grow and expand the number of choirs in accordance with church growth as needed
Fellowship/Special Events
Plan and coordinate events and activities for musical groups
  • Rose Hill Revue (fundraiser)
  • Patriotic Concert
  • Choir Parties
  • Coordinate Choir Care Chairs
Handle duties that coordinate with other areas of the church as well as support a successful music program
  • Coordinate and schedule soloists (inside and outside church members)
  • Find and schedule outside musicians (special services and events)
  • Develop worship calendar
  • Chair/Lead Music Committee and sub-committees (when active)
  • Schedule outside concerts and performances in community
  • Coordinate with sound engineers
  • Oversee the activities of staff (pianist) and volunteers when active in Music Ministry
  • Coordinate special activities/events with other Ministry Directors
  • Attend staff and other church meetings and workshops that require representation
  • Create and maintain the Music Budget
Spiritual Leadership
Be a spiritual leader for the congregation and choirs
  • Weekly hymn stories to congregation
  • Weekly devotional to choir
  • Educate children and youth in respective choirs
